SOPHIA KAYAFAS
After moving to New York City to pursue my artistic aspirations in 2014, I began a full commitment to a dynamic multi disciplinary creative life.
The 2020 pandemic served as a catalyst for my musical evolution. After being confined to my home studio, I turned to writing, recording and producing my first album, "Let's Go Swimming", released in 2022.
Music gradually evolved into a vital component of my creative practice and personal expression. I began producing her second album, Patterns two years ago, and is in the final stages of completion. Patterns is set to be released late this August 2024 with the support of Mastering Engineer Yury Upalinsky.
Gathering a band to explore the material and live performance aspects slowly became an aspiration. Finding the right musicians to join was a gratifying challenge and I finally found the perfect group.
Summer of 2024, and Brooklyn based, genre defying 5 piece music project, Safka, enters the NY music scene.
Exploring the rich atmosphere and textures, and layered melodies present in her song writing, Sophia Kayafas, (guitar, vocals), Angela Gram (guitar) Eli Silverman Lloyd (keyboard), Ethan Lucas, (drums), and Mike Forfia (bass) debuted on one of New york City’s legendary emerging artist stages, The Broadway in Bushwick followed by upcoming performances set for this coming fall at The Bitterend, Gold Sounds, and The Delancey.
